How to save 181,000 Trees!

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

This is a great article about the power of a tool that you may be already using!

How to save 181,000 trees and pay bills at the same time
You probably don’t think of “saving green” when paying the bills, but a study conducted by the PayItGreen Alliance, a coalition of financial service companies, shows that switching from paper to electronic bills, statements and payments could help protect the environment.
According to the study, the average American household receives 19 bills and financial statements in the mail every month and makes seven payments in paper form. Here’s the impact on the environment if just 2% more households made the switch to electronic bills and payments:
More than 15 million pounds of paper would be saved, preserving more than 181,000 trees.
Emissions of more than 390 million pounds of greenhouse gases would be halted.
More than 143 million gallons of wastewater would be prevented from entering the environment.
To find out the impact your household could make, use the “Green Calculator” at payitgreen.org.

Dining out is overrated!

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Dine in instead! Do you know someone who collects salt and pepper sets? I know I do! At my home growing up whenever dinner became an “event” due to friends or family joining us we loved to pick from a different salt and pepper, sugar, creamer or other set. It was such a simple thing, but it also became a tradition always admired as a special touch by our guests. I just love incorporating little things into my daily life that make every day just a little bit better. After all life is a ride to be enjoyed! Add a little whimsy to your home!

Freedom Weekend! Get outta town!

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Hello! I don’t know about you, but I am taking time out this 4th of July weekend to go camping! There is nothing quite like it in my opinion- getting back to basics, hiking in the woods, taking paths that you never have before, seeing new things, meeting new people, that is what life is all about anyway right? Well I sure hope that all of you enjoy this 4th of July- and I would like to end this post by saying how much I appreciate all the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for our freedoms as my father was one of those proud men as well.

Signing off for now :0)

Renewability of Paper

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
Every $1 plants a tree

Every $1 plants a tree

O.K! What is something that you use lots of every day?? I know there might be a lot of answers to that, but in this case I am looking for one answer….. You guessed it… paper!!! In my line of work we often joke that my company should have their own forest! BUT all joking aside the renewability of this resource is something that we can all contribute to by planting more trees (and of course using less paper.) So our 1st cause of the month will be American Forests. I am hoping to maximize our impact here, because $1 plants one tree! How awesome is that?

American Forests works to protect, restore and enhance the natural capital of trees and forests. Help plant trees to restore areas damaged by wildfire, where critical wildlife habitat has been lost, and to clean our air and water.

American Forests earns four stars from Charity Navigator and approval from the BBB Wise Giving Alliance
